Zoe Ellingsworth (Lilly) Duke, 90, of Fort Myers, died after a brief illness on Thursday, November 2, 2006 under the care of Hope Hospice.
She was born February 24, 1916 in Philadelphia, Pa. to the late William C. and Rose Delia Ellingsworth Lilly. Zoe was the younger of two sisters, Mildred Lilly Coard and Myrtle Lilly McAuley. She Served honorably in the United States Marine Corps Women's Reserve from October 12, 1943 and discharged as a Staff Sgt. from the Marines Air Station, El Toro, CA on December 8, 1945. Zoe married James Basil Duke in 1951 and he preceded her in death in 1960. In 1960 she moved to St. Petersburg, Florida to care for her aging parents. She moved again to Fort Myers Beach in 1970 to share residency with her sister, Myrtle. Zoe then moved from Fort Myers after her sister's death 1986 to The Palms independent living facility where she remained until November 1, 1991. Zoe volunteered at SW Regional Medical Center in a number of administrative office positions for over 14 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star and a supporter of the Indian and Animal Rights Community Benefactress. She is survived by cousins of her late husband, John D. Briscoe and his wife Mary; James T. Briscoe and his wife Cassandra; Thomas Dawkins Briscoe of St. Leonard, Md.; nieces, June Ellen (Mrs. Barrie) Gray, of Meaford, Ontario, Canada, Mary Jean Walker of Penn Hall, Md., Barbara Jean Greeley of Timonium, Md., Margaret Delia Bauer of Forest Hill, Md., Dr. Lindsey Tomlinson of South Bound Brook, NJ, Dr. Tara Baron Tomlinson of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada; grand nephews, Scan Tomlinson of Cawnore, Alberta, Canada, John Coard of Lutherville, MD, Charles "Bud" Coard, of Perry Hall, MD, Paul Kriebel, Jim Kriebel and Carl Kriebel all of Sewlckley, PA; grand niece, Whitney Ellingsworth of Lutherville, MD; friends, Rosemary Miller of Asheville, NC, George and Edna Louise Talley of Cape Coral; former coworkers at SW Regional Medical Center, Sandy Lawyer, Nancy Kaplan, Debble Fleming, Ginny McCain, many former friends and neighbors at the Palms of Fort Myers. Funeral Service will be conducted on Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. at Harvey Engelhardt Funeral Chapel, 1600 Colonial Blvd. Family will receive from 12:00 P.M. to service time. Funeral Service will be conducted on Monday, November 13, 2006 at 12:00 P.M. at the Rausch Funeral Home, 4405 Broomes Island Road, Port Republic. Family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until service time. Final place of rest will be at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery in Prince Frederick, Md. Harvey-Engelhardt-Metz Funeral Homes and Crematory of Cape Coral have been entrusted with Zoe's arrangement. |
