Linda Diane Canter, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, February 25, 2024 in Clayton, North Carolina. Born in Nanjemoy, Maryland in 1944, to the late Everette Harold Posey and Margaret Jeanette Smith, Linda lived in Southern Maryland and Delaware before moving to North Carolina in 2014.

Linda lost her father in 1952 as a young child. She attended La Plata High School in Maryland, where she excelled academically, and graduated in 1962. She married in 1963 and raised her family in Charles County, Maryland. Despite significant limitations with her vision, Linda entered the workforce in the 1980s where she was employed by Pizza Hut, and later Burger King, and took enormous pride in her work.

Linda loved socializing and spending time with family. She enjoyed playing Yahtzee and card games, and she kept her mind sharp by solving crossword puzzles. She frequented competitive bingo halls, where for her it was always more about spending time with friends than about winning. Linda loved animals and had many furry friends throughout her life. Perhaps her favorite place was Disney World, which she visited at least 25 times and where she created many special memories with loved ones. In her later years, she was actively engaged with her local senior center and enjoyed trips and outings with friends. She always made the best of her circumstances and was cheerful and positive during even the most challenging of times. Linda will be deeply missed by her family and by all who knew her.

Linda is survived by her former husband, Roy S. Canter, Jr.; her sons, Roy S. Canter III and Christopher Canter; her daughters-in-law, Annette Canter and Paula Canter; her sister, Robin Adams; her brother, Timothy Twigg; her sisters-in-law Wanda Twigg and Tina Twigg; and her step-sister, Ashley Twigg. Linda leaves behind three grandchildren, Darryl, Alivia, and Virginia; four great-grandchildren, Cynthia, Theodore, Jamie, and Veronica; a nephew, Robert, and five nieces, Michelle, Angela, Christina, Faith, and Kelly. Preceding Linda in death is her brother, Mark Twigg, and step-father, Robert E. Twigg.

To honor Linda's wishes, no formal remembrance services will be held. You may celebrate her life by contributing to any charity that cares for the well-being of animals.
