![]() Carol Marie Usher McCarthy was born on November 23, 1967, in Bay Shore, NY. Carol was our Turkey Baby as she was born on Thanksgiving Day. She was the beloved daughter of Joseph and Marie Usher and she was the youngest member of her family. She joined her siblings, Denise, Nancy, Robert and Joseph in their family home in Islip Terrace, NY. We shared many beautiful, funny memories throughout our childhood. Carol made life-long friends who remained loyal and loving right up until her death. Carol loved people, was kind to all, and passionate about everything in life.
Carol attended East Islip High School and graduated in 1985. In 1986, she moved to Alexandria, Virginia and began her lifelong career with the federal government, primarily with the Internal Revenue Service. She received many accolades and awards over the years. Carol was an exemplary employee and a well-respected leader. In April, 2023, Carol married John McCarthy at Slavin's Dock, in Indian Head, Maryland and they began to build their life together before Carol became ill. Her husband, John was devoted to her and was looking forward to spending many years together. Carol and John were members of Moose Lodge #1712 and she volunteered there to support charities for children. Carol loved the water, kayaking, cooking crab cakes, planting flowers, listening to music. She loved cats, including her precious cat, Cutie Pie. She is survived by her siblings, Denise (David) Tordella, Nancy (Thomas) Szydlowski, Robert (Julzz Studley) Usher, and Joseph (Laya Baghdadi) Usher. Carol was the awesome aunt to Brian (Katy) Tordella, Marisa Tordella (Andrew) Mitchell, David (Abby) Szydlowski, Stephanie Szydlowski (Raymond) Joniec, Meghan Szydlowski (Tyler) Clark, Madeleine Usher, and Olivia Usher. She was the great aunt to Ryan, James, Erik, McKenze, Madigan, Lucas, Dylan and Haylee. She loved hearing stories about what all these little ones were up to in their young lives. We will love her and miss her forever. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation to one of the charitable organizations that Carol supported.
