Carroll "Buzzy" Lenwood Higgs, 77, of Leonardtown, MD, passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown, MD on January 31, 2024. Born on June 21, 1946 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late John Leon Higgs, Sr. and the late Helen Victoria Pilkerton Higgs.

Buzzy was a lifelong resident of St. Mary's County, MD. On February 7, 1976, he married his beloved wife, Bonnie Stone, at Hollywood Methodist Church in Hollywood, MD. Together they celebrated almost 48 years of marriage.

Buzzy was a proud and hardworking man. He worked as a Plant Mechanic at Steuart Petroleum for 32 years. He was known for being dependable and for taking great pride in a job well done.

Buzzy had a great love for the outdoors, especially on the water. When he was not working, you would find him in the woods hunting, on the water fishing or crabbing, in the garage carving and painting ducks and birds out of wood, or just tinkering around, and metal detecting all over. He loved all things history-related, from collecting artifacts, rocks, and arrowheads to watching history documentaries on the television. He loved being with his family and enjoying the simple things in life with them like playing cards and eating good food.

Buzzy was a kind and humble man who was full of stories. Everyone loved listening to his many stories as much as he loved telling them. He was the proud Pop Pop of five grandchildren who especially loved listening to those stories and will remember them forever.

Buzzy is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie, his sons, Kenny Perez (Joannah, wife) of Ohio and Jessie Higgs (Toni, wife) of Holly Hill, SC, daughter Carey Higgs (Tony Dubuque, partner) of Great Mills, MD, his siblings, Vicki Deagle, Elva Jean Reeves, Janice Deagle, and Ann Mattingly, as well as five grandchildren Blake, Darren, Jacob, Juliet, and Katie. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his siblings, Julia Sievertson, John Leon Higgs Jr., James Vincent Higgs, Joseph Lawrence "Larry" Higgs, and Bernard Ignatius Higgs.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, 41590 Fenwick Street, Leonardtown, MD, 20650, where a Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Dennis Gillikin officiating.
