Mrs. Janet P. Griggs, wife of Frank R. Griggs Jr., both of Port Republic, MD, and mother of Karen E. Nolan (husband Sean A. Nolan), of Norfolk , VA, sister of Richard C. Primus of Dundalk, MD and doting grandmother to seven grandchildren, passed away at home on March 20, 2009 after a long battle with cancer.

Mrs. Griggs was born on August 3, 1947, in Baltimore, MD, to Alberta M. and Henry A. Primus, who predeceased her.

She was a 1965 graduate of Eastern High School in Baltimore, MD, and a 1969 graduate of University of Maryland earning a BS Degree in Education. Janet and Frank were married in Baltimore, MD, on March 29, 1969. Beginning the fall of 1969, she began her teaching career at Middlesex Elementary School in Baltimore County. She taught there until daughter, Karen, was born in 1972. In that same year, her husband's military career took them to Germany where they resided for four years. During that time she toured Italy, Austria, Switzerland, France the United Kingdom, and through much of Germany.

In 1976, after returning to the U.S.A., her husband's military career took them briefly to Arizona and then finally to Fort Meade, MD, where she taught at the "Little Red School House" in the four year old program for eleven years. Janet and Frank moved to their Calvert County home in 1980, while she continued to work in Fort Meade until 1988. After that, she worked at T.C. Martin Elementary School in Bryantown, MD, for the before and after school care program.

Mrs. Griggs also served as a docent at the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons Island, MD, for two years. Finally she worked for the Board of Education, teaching in the county's before and after care programs at St. Leonard, Dowell and Appeal Elementary Schools until her health began to fail in 2003. Over many years, she loved and cared for four treasured dogs, Woofer, Cinnamax, Bandit and Kaiser.

Mrs. Griggs was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Port Republic, where she and Frank coordinated Sunday fellowship hours for five years. She also regularly supported the Annual Vacation Bible School Program.
