Raleigh Elmer Milton passed away peacefully at the age of 80 at his home in Welcome, Maryland in the loving care of his family.

Born in Hurricane, West Virginia to Charlotte and Ronald Milton, Raleigh Milton graduated from Bad Axe High School in Bad Axe, Michigan and made his way to Washington DC where he became a court reporter.

Raleigh worked for six administrations, and traveled full time with Presidents Johnson, Nixon, Ford, and Carter. Having run his own court reporting company for thirteen years, Raleigh became an Official Reporter of Debates for the United States Senate and retired from federal service in 2006.

Raleigh was an avid outdoorsman, boater, and motorcyclist. He loved sharing historical facts and enjoyed telling stories. He was a generous, patient, and kind man.

Raleigh is predeceased by his parents, Charlotte Loriene and Ronald Burford Milton, brother Rodney Daniel Milton, and sisters Patricia Loriene Milton and Loretha Bell Wilcoxin. He is survived by his wife, Karen Colette Hinnenkamp, his eldest daughter, Heather Lynn Milton and daughter-in-law Susie Hope Barwig, his daughter, Stephanie Loraine Milton, his son, Rodney William Milton, his sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie Sue and Ken Martin, his sister, Barbara Sue Milton, and his brother, Maurice William Milton.

The family will receive friends on Thursday January 18, 2024 from 10 AM until service time at 11 AM at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home (211 St. Mary's Ave. LaPlata, MD 20646). Interment to follow at the Trinity Memorial Gardens (3221 Mattawoman Beantown Rd. Waldorf, MD 20601).
