Roy Matthew Maier, 80, of LaPlata, MD passed away on January 11, 2024 at his home. Roy was a devout Christian.

Roy was born on July 12, 1943 in Rochester, NY to the late John and Deloris Gutmann Maier. He is also predeceased by his brother, Marvin Maier, and his sister, Diane Teeter.

Roy is survived by his wife, Jimmie Roberts; sons, Matthew Maier (Lizette), Eric Maier (Erin) , Michael Maier (Kate) and his daughter, Theresa Ford (Ingi); sister, Mary Bernhard of Webster, New York and brother, John Maier of Aiken, South Carolina. He is also survived by two stepchildren; Dana Johnson (Chris) and Steve Roberts; and 9 grandchildren; Alisa, Dasha, Abigail and Emily Maier, Mikayla and Dylan Johnson, Maya and Karina Roberts and Alberto Fernandez. Several nephews, nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews also survive him.

Roy earned his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from St. Bonaventure University and later a Master's Degree in Business Financial Management Science. He was a Computer Programmer for various firms throughout the United States and Canada. He retired from the Federal Government as a contract employee in 2008. He was involved in the early development of personal computer programming at Sperry-Univac.

Roy was a member of Mattawoman Creek Art Center, The Arts Alliance of Charles County and the Maryland Writers Association. He was successful in publishing a book, "Supernatural Encounters". Roy was also active in Cub Scouts and was able to share his experiences during his tenure in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He enjoyed canoeing, hiking and being close to nature. He enjoyed painting landscapes in oils which were very well done and was often teased by family calling him the "Bob Ross student". His skills in working jigsaw puzzles was admired by those that shared his love for this great pastime. He was an avid reader and would often read two or three books in a week. He also enjoyed building model train layouts. In recent years he enjoyed traveling to various locations in the United States, Peru, Canada, Ireland and Italy. One of his passions was watching old silent movies and those during the WW2 era.

Roy's mathematics skills gave him the ability to plan projects thoroughly which assisted him over the years in building decks and remodeling/redesigning home features to make them more useful. The family was always amazed how little materials he had left after a project.

The family will receive friends on Friday January 19, 2024 from 9:30 AM until Mass time at 10:30AM at the St. Ignatius Chapel Point Church (8855 Chapel Point Rd. Port Tobacco, MD 20677). Interment to follow at the Charles Memorial Gardens (26325 Point Lookout Rd. Leonardtown, MD 20650).
