![]() On Sunday, January 7, 2024 Alice Ernestine Countess, 89, entered into eternal life
peacefully with her family at her side. Born May 21, 1934 to the late Susie and Howard Young Sr., Alice was born in Park Hall, MD. She attended Jarboesville School. Later, Alice and her family moved to Mulberry Fields estates, one of the oldest historical landmarks in St. Mary's County. She began her working career as a domestic housekeeper at Mulberry Fields estates working for 40 years until her retirement. While working at Mulberry Fields, Alice got so many accolades from visitors for making her famous stuffed ham that she was premiered in the Bon Appetit' magazine,1984. After retirement, for many years, Alice helped her church with the homeless population by giving them food, clothes, tents and provided them with information about resources to get further assistance. Alice was a devoted Christian and loved and honored everyone. She was always ready to assist people in prayer or give advice on her landline phone counseling them. Alice enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, watching soap operas, gardening, and with her first stray cat, Sheba. She adored children and had a way of making them especially feel safe, secure, and loved. A smile and a hug were always close by. Birthdays were special to Alice. She was gifted to have a photographic memory and always remembered to call or send a card to her sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews on their special day. Alice loved God. She was a life-long parishioner of St. Georges Catholic Church. When she could no longer attend in person, she would receive the Eucharist in her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Susie and Howard E. Young Sr.; three sisters, Mary Dyson, Nettie Beasley, Rebecca Morgan, and two brothers, Nelson Fenwick, and James Fenwick. Left to cherish her memories are her loving son, Martin Young; sister, Evelyn Thomas; brother, Howard E. Young, Jr. (Martha) and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Family and friends will unite on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 for visitation at 10 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at St. George's Catholic Church, 19199 St. George's Church Road, Valley Lee, MD 20692. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. |
