Rebecca Ann Bolton Bridgett

Rebecca Bridgett, age 58 of Charlotte Hall, Maryland died on October 15, 2023 peacefully at home. She was the daughter of the late Richard Lee Bolton and Sharon Gore Bolton. She is preceded in death by her brother, Richard Lee Bolton, Jr. and sister-in-law, Beverly Ann Bridgett Williams. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Lee Bridgett; son, Dennis Lee Bridgett, Jr.; sister, Melissa (Mark) Willett; brother, Raymond Gore Bolton; stepdaughters Jacqueline (James) Bowers, Jessica Bridgett & Jennifer (Gavin) Webster; step-granddaughters Louella James Bridgett-Bowers and Maisy Jean Bridgett-Bowers; and many nieces and nephews, including two great-nephews and a great-niece.

She was born July 12, 1965 in Washington D.C and lived her childhood in La Plata, Maryland, graduating from McDonough High School in 1983. She received her BA Degree in English Communications from Campbell University, MA in Special Education from Appalachian State University and her Doctorate in Education from NOVA Southeastern University. After completing her education, she served in many leadership capacities throughout the Southern Maryland region - Director of Tri-Co. Treatment Foster Care, Director of the Human Services Partnership, and Director of the Charles County Department of Social Services. She served in various executive-level positions in both local and state government, including Acting Director of the Department of Human Resources Social Services Administration for the state of Maryland. There, she reported regularly to the Maryland General Assembly on key initiatives advocating for child welfare and vulnerable adults. She served as the County Administrator in both Charles and St. Mary's Counties, although it was St. Mary's County that drew her heart and soul. In addition, she served as Chair and a member of the Charles County School Board (elected). She was a University of Maryland Academy of Excellence in Local Governance Fellow; Leadership Maryland 2016; Leadership Southern Maryland 2014; and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.

She will be remembered for her passion for life – her love for her husband, son and family. She was fiercely loyal and loved Southern Maryland and North Carolina as home. She loved the beach, Old Sycamore Farm and Bridgett Vines, and the refuge of home. She loved farming, gardening and tending to the vineyard and orchard with Dennis. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving – a time to gives thanks to God for family and friends.

A graveside service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Newport, Maryland on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Reception to follow.
