Charlotte Ann Wathen, "Poppy", 77, of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away on July 8, 2023 in La Plata, MD. Born on October 10, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Mary Madeline (Abell) Dornell and the late Charles Nicolas Dornell, Sr. Charlotte was the loving wife of the late Leonard Briscoe Wathen, Sr., whom she married on November 30, 1963 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Morganza, MD. Charlotte is survived by her children Leonard Lenny Wathen, Sr. of VA and Sandra Wood of Mechanicsville, MD, her siblings Anna Louise Storm of Anne Arundel County, MD and Cecilia Maude Flora of Mechanicsville, MD, her grandchildren Bradley Wathen, Corey Wathen, Wesley Wathen, Shelby Wood, Serena Wood, Lawson Wathen, and Lannie Wathen, as well as her great grandchildren Hallie McDonald, Jacob Wathen, Maddie Wood, Joshua Wood, Sammie Jo King, and Maeverly Wathen. She is preceded in death by her daughter Lorraine Wathen, her siblings Mary Elizabeth Trossbach, Margaret Marie Hill, and Charles Nichol Dornell.

Charlotte was a homemaker. She loved playing cards and canning. Charlotte loved having family over for meals and holiday gatherings.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 13, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 10:00 AM in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Mechanicsville, MD with Father Michael Tietjen officiating. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Bradley Wathen, Corey Wathen, Wesley Wathen, James Morgan, Jr., Anthony King, Jr., and Jason Wood. Honorary pallbearers will be Lawson Wathen, Lannie Wathen, Jacob Wathen, Shelby Wood, Serena Wood, and Hallie McDonald.
