On Sunday, June 18, 2023, at 12:08 pm James Bernard Chandlee of Solomons, Md. (formerly of Lake Anna, VA) passed away in his sleep while holding the hand of his beloved wife of 62 years, Rosanne (Formaro) Chandlee.

Jim was born on April 2, 1939 in Des Moines, Iowa to George Ellis Chandlee and Nina (McGriff) Chandlee. He was their only son. He graduated from East High School in Des Moines, IA where he lettered in varsity tennis, basketball and football. He went on to enjoy tennis scholarships at Drake University and Iowa State University. Upon graduating from Iowa State he was offered a federal position with the National Imagery and Mapping Agency in Suitland, Md. He was employed with that agency from May 1963 until he retired in January 2003. In that position, he traveled the world representing the United States during information treaty negotiations.

On June 3, 1961 married the love of his life, Rosanne Carmelia (Formaro) Chandlee. They called Upper Marlboro, Md. their home for 41 years. There they raised two sons, Mark (Liz) of Huntingtown, Md. and Stephen (Lydia) of Arnold, Md. Jim was an avid and lifelong tennis player. He also enjoyed fishing, boating and attending the sporting events of his six grandchildren; Ryan, Adam, Joseph, and Vincent Chandlee and Magdalena Watts (Sean) and Luke Chandlee. He was proud of all of his grandchildren's accomplishments.

During the time that Jim and Rosanne raised their two sons, Jim was active in the Clinton Boys & Girls Club where he coached football, baseball and basketball. He later became a member of IAABO Board 134 for 27 years where he officiated high school and collegiate basketball. In that capacity, he was given the honor of officiating the Maryland State High School Basketball Championship game on several occasions.

Upon retirement, Jim and Rosanne moved to Lake Anna, Virginia where they resided for 18 yrs. Jim proudly became a volunteer at the Spotsylvania County Firehouse in Mineral, VA where he served as an ambulance driver.

Jim was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He was kind and gentle to all he met. He will be greatly missed by the family and friends he leaves behind. He truly led his life by example.

The family will receive friends at Rausch Funeral Home, Lusby, Md. on Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 4-6:30 pm with a service at 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made on Jim's behalf to the Alzheimer's Association.
