Cora Florence Shannon, 86, of La Plata, MD died on February 26, 2009 at Abbey Manor, La Plata, MD.

Mrs. Shannon was a retired elementary school teacher at Indian Head Elementary School for 35 years. She was a member of the 2n1 Club, Retired Teachers Association, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Methodist Church. She was a member of La Plata United Methodist Church.

Daughter of the late Henry J. Bowie and the late Florence Lorene Gilroy; and late step-father, Middleton Shannon.

Predeceased by her parents, late husband, Lawrence H. Shannon, late son, Roger A. Shannon, late half-brother, Henry J. Bowie, Jr., late brother, M. Lester Shannon, late half-sisters, Gladys Willett and Jean Bowie.

Survived by three half-sisters, Jeanette Hyde, Lois Moore, and Barbara Reckner, grandchildren, Michael Shannon, Gerald (Tina) Shannon, Susan (Michael Stachura) Shannon, four great-grandchildren, Anna Stachura, Thomas, Katelyn and Bradley Shannon. Also survived by her (adopted daughter and care giver) Judith Berger.

Visitation: Wednesday, March 4, 2009 from 10am until service time at 11am at Raymond Funeral Chapel, La Plata, MD.

Clergy: Reverend Bruce Jones and Rev. Kenneth Bowen.

Interment: Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD.
