![]() Carl Greagor Orlando, 95, of Charlotte Hall, MD, peacefully passed away on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023.
Carl was born on February 24, 1928 in Castlewood, PA, to Aleck Orlando and Mathilda (Nicholas) Orlando. After Carl turned 17, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps, which later became the US Air Force. His military service spanned both World War II and the Korean War, where he flew 119 combat missions delivering supplies to soldiers on the front line. While stationed at Bolling Field, Carl met then married Amelia Bluey Orlando, to whom he was married for almost 50 years. Upon his return from the Korean War, he found employment with the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company, where he worked for 30 years until his retirement. In 2000, Carl met and later married Hilda Hackett Orlando, with whom he shared many beautiful years. Carl is predeceased by his parents, first wife, Amelia Bluey Orlando, brother, Olimpiu, sisters, Mary, Ann and Sylvia, and stepdaughter, Deborah Knotts. Carl is survived by his wife, Hilda Hackett Orlando; son, Dr. Ronald Orlando (Sharon Gamble) of Athens, GA; brother, Donald Orlando (Nancy) of Temple, OK, stepson, Raymond Hackett Jr. (Joan) of LaPlata, MD; grandchildren, Maria Orlando, Caroline Harris (Charles) and Leah Orlando; step grandchildren, Ryan Hackett (Pam), Joel Hackett, Kaitlyn Hackett, Raymond Hackett III (Maggie); step great-grandchildren, Avery, Owen and Pierce, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Carl enjoyed a variety of activities throughout his life. His favorite being the role of taxi driver shuttling his son between after school activities. Carl loved the outdoors, particularly camping and fishing. He served as scoutmaster for two different Boy Scout troops. He transitioned from tent camping to campers and eventually to motor homes (Winnebagos not "some other brand"). He traveled from Canada to Key West and from the east coast to California, and was an active member of the "Wayward Winnies". Carl participated in two Catholic service organizations: Order of the Alhambra and the Knights of Columbus, where he was a founding member of Council 9258 at Our Lady Star of the Sea. Carl was also an active member in American Legion Post 274 in Lusby Maryland serving terms as Commander and Vice Commander. Carl held many titles in his life, his favorites being husband, dad and gramps. He was loved by many and will he missed. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 16, 2023, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm for visitation with prayers at 4:00 pm officiated by Father Schmidt at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 22 at 11:15 a.m. at Cheltenham Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland with interment to follow after the service.
