Dolores Carr Elder, a long-time resident of La Plata, MD, died Tuesday the 24th of February at her home.
Born in 1927 in Brooklyn NY, Dolores worked for the Bank of New York and Macy's Department Store. She moved to Maryland in 1950 after her marriage to the late, Albert Leo Elder, Jr. She was the mother of eight children. Dolores accomplished many things in her life. She was a talented painter and interior decorator. She was proud to be a Past Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America and a Eucharistic Minister for Sacred Heart Church. Over the years, she was active with many local organizations including the Sacred Heart Sodality, the Altar Guild, the American Legion Auxiliary and Catholic Charities. She was also a member of the Charles County Art Alliance and the Mattawoman Creek Arts Center. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Albert Leo Elder, Jr., children Karen Elder Crosley and Dickie Elder, and brothers James and Francis Carr. She is survived by her brother John (Margaret) Carr; her sons Kevin (Bonnie) Elder and Jerry (Catherine) Elder; her daughters Joanne (RC) Smith, Mary Beth (Scott) Dean, Anne Marie (Jo) Elder, and Barbara Butterfield; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Arnold, Stacy Spaulding, Richie Elder, Jessica and Brian Lawrence, Craig and Karen Elder, Rebecca, Ricky and Christopher Dean, Brandy and Krysta Butterfield; 5 great-grandchildren Corey and Kristina Arnold, Alexis, Christian and Nicholas Elder.
