William Nathaniel (Willy) Butler, 49, was born on October 12, 1973 in Leonardtown, Maryland to James Butler, Sr. and Patricia Butler. He danced into Heaven on December 26, 2022, at Medstar St. Mary's Hospital.  He obtained his education through the St. Mary's County Public School System and worked as a Laborer afterwards. He also worked multiple jobs with his dad, which included traveling to different states. Willy's sense of humor made those long rides seem so short. 

Willy was a dedicated father to three beautiful girls, Taneka, Unique and Avionna Butler. He was an adoring grandfather to the light of his life, Nevaeh Garland, his Tutu. He would move mountains for his four girls, and we all caught a couple of words when it came to them!  

He was an exceptional son to his parents. Willy would call every day and ask what they were doing. If they didn't answer their phone, he would reach out to his siblings and ask if they had spoken to them that day. He spent most Sundays at their house watching the Washington Commanders football team, playing with his granddaughter and eating a great meal prepared by his mom.  

Willy was an awesome brother to James (Jamie) Butler, Pierre (Buck) Butler, Tamika (Tami) Mason and Travis (T.T.) Butler. He was a jokester but when it was time to be honest with them, he would do just that. After they got past his honesty…it was all love. There's so much that can be said about their relationship but to keep it simple, he was the glue. 

Willy was a loving uncle to eight nieces and nephews, Armani Mason, Tashanna Butler, Alajiah Butler, Antonio Butler, J'Naiya Butler, Desmond Mason, Iyonna Nelson and Tavien Butler. He enjoyed spending time and having meaningful conversations with each one of them. He was their Uncle Lu-lee. 

He enjoyed playing Parks and Recreation basketball with his brother Jamie when they were younger. They were two of the best players on the court! Willy also liked playing cards, crabbing, eating TONS of crabs, cracking jokes, riding to Walmart on Sunday mornings with T.T. and playing dominoes with Buck.

Willy was the 'LIFE' of the party wherever he went and knew he was the best dancer in the room. He even did the centipede! Willy could also carry a long note, literally, while singing. He knew every song a DJ would play and each song, especially the older ones, brought up an old memory. One song in particular was The Water Dance. Every time that song came on, he would lock eyes with his sister and laugh.  

Willy had a phrase for every conversation. If you said something he didn't like, you'd get a GIRLLL BYE or BOYYY BYE! If you didn't hear what he said, YOU MUST HAVE AN EAR INFECTION. If your response was huh, we knew what was coming, IF YOU CAN HUH YOU CAN HEAR. If you asked him a question that you should know the answer to, you might get a HELLLOOOOOO. Let's not forget AIN'T NOT, YOU CAN BOX THAT AND PLAY IT STRAIGHT, EXCUSE ME FOR BREATHING YOUR AIR, SEE YOU LATER WHEN YOUR HAIR GROW STRAIGHTER, and YOU LYING TO ME. 

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Butler; brother, Jamie Butler; paternal grandparents, William Butler, Sr. and Mary Butler; maternal grandparents, John Maddox, Sr. and Mary Maddox; aunts, Hilda Herbert, Mary Butler and Mary Neal; uncles, Joseph Maddox, John Butler, Robert Jordan, James Jordan, Thomas Jordan, William Butler Jr., John Jordan, and Thomas Butler.    

Willy is survived by his daughters, Taneka, Unique and Avionna Butler; granddaughter, Nevaeh Garland; parents, James and Patricia Butler; sibling,s Pierre Butler, Tamika Mason (Cory) and T.T. Butler; Godsons, D'amato and Antonio Butler; Godmother, Frances Campbell (Yea), and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends.

Family and friends will unite on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 for visitation from 9:30 am – 11 am; service from 11 am – 12:30 pm at Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home, 38576 Brett Way, Mechanicsville, MD. Interment to follow at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.
