Nancy Lee Coffren died of complications from a stroke on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House, Harwood, Maryland. The stroke occurred a month earlier.

She was born Nancy Lee Geary in Capitol Heights, Prince George's County, Maryland. She was the daughter of Aloysius Patrick Geary and Ruby Adelaide Good Geary. After graduating from high school, she worked several years for the U.S. Department of Agriculture before becoming a homemaker and raising four children. She and her husband of 59 years, the late Elmer "Buddy" Coffren, lived in Forestville, Maryland, before retiring in 1989 to their Calvert County summer home in Broomes Island, Maryland, next door to her beloved nephew and niece Patrick and Sharon Main.

Her interests included reading, visiting museums and traveling. She was a regular parishioner at Epiphany Episcopal Church, Prince George's County, Maryland, and Christ Church, Calvert County, Maryland.

Survivors include her four children: Sandra Mills, Pam Sands, James Coffren and John Coffren, ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, her brother Thomas Geary, and numerous beloved Coffren nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on February 20 at Christ Church. The officiating minister was the Rev. John E. Howanstine, Jr. Active pallbearers were Bob Coffren, Greg Coffren, Jeff Coffren, Pat Main, Tim Main and Justin Sands.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Church, 3100 Broomes Island Road, Port Republic, Maryland 20676-2101.
