Dr. Leslie Fairweather Brooks passed away peacefully at home November 19, 2022 in St. Leonard, Maryland at the age of 68, from the effects of cancer.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, J. Michael Brooks, M.D. of Saint Leonard, Md. and daughter Maria June Milagro Brooks of Washington, DC; brother, Steve (Karen) Fairweather of White Salmon, WA; sister, LeeAnne (Laird) Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO; brother Dave (Janette) Fairweather of Windham, NH; as well as cherished nieces, nephew and dear friends.

Leslie was predeceased by her beloved son Sean Michael Brooks; and her parents, June and Edwin William Fairweather.

Leslie Fairweather Brooks was born in San Francisco, California in 1954, to June and Bill Fairweather. She attended Roxbury High School in Succasunna, New Jersey before completing her Bachelor's degree at Pennsylvania State University and graduating with a Doctor of Medicine Degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1980.

After medical school graduation, Leslie entered service in the U.S. Navy and completed her Family Medicine residency at the U.S. Naval Hospital Charleston, SC. While in residency, she met and married her husband, Mike. They subsequently lived and practiced in the New Bern, NC area before moving to Calvert County Maryland in 1990.

For 23 years, Leslie was a much-loved family doctor to many generations of patients at community health center Owensville Primary Care in West River, Maryland. She strongly believed in their mission, that "No neighbor shall go without needed healthcare" and is remembered as a dedicated physician with great warmth, empathy, and kindness for all.

After her retirement in 2013, Leslie pursued interests in music, history, art and civil rights education and she loved to read, play piano, garden and cook. With a passion for travel and an eagerness for new experiences, she explored the country, hiking and photographing numerous Natural Parks and outdoor destinations. Serving in many capacities, she was a long and valued volunteer with Calvert Hospice.

Enriching and touching the lives of all around her, Leslie found greatest happiness in her love of family. She was a devoted wife and proud mother of Sean and Maria, and she relished many joyful trips and gatherings with all her extended family.

There are two opportunities for visitation with the family. Visitation will be held on Thursday December 8 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Rausch Funeral Home, 20 American Lane, Lusby, Md. 20657.

There will also be visitation with family and friends on Friday December 9 at 10:00 AM in the Festival Room at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 105 Vianney Lane, Prince Frederick, Md. 20678. A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM. Private interment will follow at the St. John Vianney Cemetery. A reception will follow in the Vianney Room following interment.

With deep appreciation, the family would like to thank all the wonderful medical and nursing staff at CalvertHealth Medical Center for their expertise and compassionate care of Leslie.

In lieu of sending flowers or memorial donations, it is Leslie's wish that you perform some act to make the world a lovelier place - go out and plant some flowers or give to someone less fortunate or offer a thoughtful and caring word or gesture for someone in their time of need.
