Edward Columbus Murphy, Jr., 73 of Hughesville, MD died on February 11, 2009 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home.

Born on October 8, 1935 in Benedict, MD, he was the son of the late Edward Columbus and Mary Cecelia Burch Murphy.

Mr. Murphy was a life long resident of Benedict, MD. He was a Farmer. Prior, he served in the US Army from 1960 until 1962. Some of his enjoyments were; gardening, raising sweet potatoes, kale, and tomatoes. From 1934 until 2000, he farmed Hilltop Farm. He was a member of St. Francis De Sales Church in Benedict, MD where he was an Altar boy. He also was a member of VFW.

Survived by siblings, Louis A., Sr., and Richard F. Murphy, both of Benedict, MD, and Patrick J. Murphy, Sr. of Waldorf, nieces and nephews, Sharon Mattia, Audie, Darlene, & Michael Murphy, all of Benedict, MD, Pam Earnshaw of Hollywood, MD, Ricky Murphy of Hughesville, MD, Mary Lou Gibson of Prince Frederick, MD, Lona Marie Drake of St. Leonard, MD, and P.J. Murphy of Waldorf, MD, ten great nieces and nephews, and long time companion of 40 years, Della Pile.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, February 15, 2009 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD where a Funeral Service will be Monday, February 16, 2009 at 10 a.m. with Father Frank McMullen. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
