Jay was born on January 16, 1944 in Carle Place, New York to Willard and Jane (Schiffer) Lounsbury. He was the eldest of their three children. He married Linda LaFreniere in October of 1965, and they had a daughter, Vanessa, in 1967. He married Sariann (Sally) Cayton in June of 1971 and they had two children, a son Gregory in 1975, and a daughter Sarah in 1982. He was predeceased by his parents: Willard Lounsbury and Jane Schaberg, and daughters: Amelia Denise, and twins Rebekah, and Iris.

Jay is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sariann (Sally) Lounsbury; siblings: Anne Curry of Redding Connecticut, Glenn (Donna) Lounsbury of Ridgefield Connecticut, and Josephine Rogers of Jacksonville Florida; children: daughter Vanessa (Todd) Marino, son Gregory Lounsbury (Liz), and daughter Sarah (James) Stith; three grandchildren: Karilynd (Nick) Ostrovsky, Cory (Taylor) Marino, and Zachary Lounsbury; three great-grandchildren: Teagan Zoog, Lincoln Ostrovsky, and Scarlett Marino.

Jay graduated from Norwalk High School and later joined the United States Air Force in the Defense Language Program/Russian. After service he graduated from George Washington University with a degree in Political Science.

An avid local sports fan, Jay spent many hours with his son and grandson cheering for his beloved Baltimore Orioles. Jay was especially fond of Annmarie Gardens, treasuring the time he spent there and many other art museums with his daughter Sarah. He also found lifelong pleasure in music, amassing an enviable record collection and sharing that love with his family.

Jay was a founding member of DACCA (Dunkirk Area Concerned Citizens Association). He was very active in multiple roles for Friendship United Methodist Church. He especially enjoyed the time spent with his son as members of the church softball league. Jay was proud to have been named Republican Man of the Year by the Calvert County Republican Central Committee in the 90s. He served on the Calvert County Board of Elections. One of his greatest passions through the years was post mark collecting. He was elected President of the Post mark Collectors Club from 1976-1985 and he and his wife sponsored four of their national conventions.

Jay was a self-employed technical editor, making highly technical instructions suitable and easy to follow by end users.

The family wishes to express special thanks to the ICU staff at Doctors Community Medical Center and our new friends at Hospice of the Chesapeake for all their loving care.
