Shirley M. Hawkins, 81, of Indian Head (Pisgah), Maryland

Shirley Monroe Hawkins "momma," peacefully transitioned from this life to one eternal on the night of July 22, 2022. Shirley was born November 25, 1940, to the late beautiful, Inez C. Davis and Jimmy Bowman. She was also blessed with a bonus father, Author T. Davis.

Shirley received her education in the Charles County Public School system. More importantly, the will of God was instilled in her during the same time. Shirley was a long-time family member of Zion Baptist Church and also a member of the Gospel Choir.

Shirley was married to Michael N. Hawkins who preceded her in death. From their union came three daughters and two sons. Daddy always said he had three headaches! While we didn't have much, we had everything!

Shirley was a bit feisty all her life, the look said it all. If you know, you know!

She enjoyed cooking and baking and she did both very well. Shirley would enjoy a nice Pepsi as well as pigs feet, ribs with potatoes and sauerkraut. She thought hot sauce must be on everything! The highlight of her day would be to watch Steph Curry play until the wee hours of the morning, often going to bed about 1:00 a.m.

Waiting for her to arrive at the gates of heaven was her beloved mother, Inez, sister, Cora Sue and aunts, Bertha, and Beulah.

With all that she has been through over the last year and a half, Shirley has called herself a miracle. Someone prove her wrong!

Left to mourn her transition but rejoice in her memory are her children; Carla Hawkins, Michele Hawkins, Michael Hawkins, Kristie Blake, and Jefferey Hawkins (Juanita), grandchildren; Larry, Allen (Colita), Koreena, Dwight, Delante (Myriel), (Matthew preceded in death) Grace, Alexis, Adrian and five great grandchildren; sisters; Virginia "Lores" Bowman, Leola "Ann" Mason, (Cora "Sue" Greenhow preceded her in death) brother; Colbert Bowman; special nephews and nieces; (they know why) Myron, Mark, Martin (Monte preceded in death) Marlon, Melanie, Meredith, (John, Pam, Rachel, Kacheri and Kim). Godson Colin, sisters-in-law; Margaret Ann, Florine, Maria, and Leona; aunts and uncles; Marguerite Harvey, Violet Simmons, Elaine Baker, Liz Thompson, Frances "Sonny" Penny, and Paul Bobby Bowman. Also surviving are a host of other relatives and friends.

Viewing, 10:00 a.m., until time of Service, 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Zion Baptist Church, 8105 Annapolis Woods Road, Welcome, Maryland 20693. Interment, Church Cemetery. Services entrusted to Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., Indian Head, Maryland
