![]() Dorothy (Dottie) Heathwaite Lazarz born February 18, 1935, passed away peacefully at home June 16, 2022. Dottie was mother to six children, Matthew, Robert, Lisa, Julia, Jacqueline, and Joanna; and has six grandchildren: Joshua, Nicole, Jason, Jessica, Rachel, and Amanda. She was born in Bedfordshire and raised in Yorkshire England, her early years marked by brown outs and bombings during WWII. Her father Matthew was a veteran of both WWI and WWII. She lost her mother to illness when she was just a teen, she was an only child.
Dottie moved to the United States and became a citizen in 1957. She stayed home with her children while they were young, volunteered regularly with her church, and worked as a unit secretary on the Labor & Delivery floor at Fairfax Hospital in Virginia for many years. She was a lifelong animal lover nearly always having dogs, followed by cats and an affinity for birds in nature. Dorothy married Charles Lazarz in January 1983. They loved to dance and did so frequently. They built a home together in the Chesapeake Ranch Club in 1988. Charles enjoyed his retirement golfing and flying, while she enjoyed working at O'Brien, later Remax Realty and breeding Shi-Tzu's until she retired. Since Charles passed in 1996, she has remained in the home surrounded by the solitude and beauty of Solomon's Island, her extensive gardens and the plentiful hummingbirds that visited her there. Her son Bob found this quote written in her hand in her home after she passed away from an unknown source: "The soul leaves the body like a schoolboy jumps through the schoolhouse door, filled with joy. There is no horror in death." It is her family's hope she rests in peace and joy. Services are private. Condolences to the family may be made at www.rauschfuneralhomes.com. |
