Mary Margaret Hinkle Smith, 74, of Shady Side, Maryland, formerly of Capitol Heights, died February 4, 2009 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Born July 2, 1934 in Somerset, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Otha and Opie Foster Hinkle. She was a Personnel Director with a Lithograph Company.

Ms. Hinkle loved being with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing Bingo with her friends, scrapbooking, making photo albums, baking and gardening. She recently completed a family history.

She is survived by her former spouse, Eugene P. Smith; daughters, Linda J. Mattingly (Steve), Mary Catherine Cassity (Robert); son, Steven E. Smith (Jacqueline); sister, Theresa Knapp; brothers, Rev. Edward Hinkle and Jackie Hinkle; grandchildren, Jennifer Smith Bernstein, Ensign Steven Mattingly, USN Lindsay and Jonathan Mattingly, Chelsea, Anna, Sara and Charlotte Cassity and Ashley and Tyler Smith; great-grand children, Amelia and Caroline Bernstein.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Smith was predeceased by her daughter, Laura Elaine Smith.

A Life Celebration will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2009 from 1:30pm to 3pm at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD where Funeral Services will be held at 3:00pm. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, Maryland

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the name of Mary Smith, Calvert Memorial Hospital, Infusion Center, 100 Hospital Rd., Prince Frederick, MD 20678.
