Joan E. Hedges 84 of Bryans Road, MD passed away on Tuesday May 31, 2022 in White Plains, MD.

Joan was born on October 10, 1937 in Bryans Road, MD to the late Bernard Ralph Downs and Virginia Rose, she is also predeceased by her sister, Patricia Diane Watkins Long of Frederick, MD.

Joan is survived by her husband, Elvan Hedges; son Mike Hedges (and his girlfriend Tammy Chafee); daughter Beverly Hill (and her husband JC); granddaughter, Dawn Deery (and her husband Shane), Michael Hedges (and his wife Robin) and Mark Hedges. Great-grandchildren Paige, Trey, Kendal, Matthew, Evan, Kaden and Jayce

Joan and Elvan owned and operated Hedges Bus Service for many years. She was also a very active lifetime member and Chaplin of the Bryans Road Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was the original life member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Bryans Road, MD. She was a Lackey High School graduate Class of "1955". She was an avid sports fan, especially baseball and NASCAR. In 1956, she married the love of her life, Elvan Hedges, whom she gave her heart and soul to. They always went out on Friday night Date Night and after church every Sunday they would go down to the "River House" and enjoy boating and fun with family and friends. With their children she loved to go on adventures, especially camping, being on the road sightseeing and traveling. She was an amazing grandma and great grandma, if she wasn't swinging on her tree in the backyard with them singing "Swing Low Sweet Chariot", she was showing them how to garden and play the piano. She had a smile like no other and a heart of gold, for her family and her community. She will be Greatly Missed

The family will receive friends on Monday June 6, 2022 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Bryans Road Volunteer Fire Department (3099 Livingston Rd.
