![]() A Funeral Service will be held in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, October 30, 2006 at 11:00 AM with Deacon Bill Nickerson officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
Public visitation will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, October 29, 2006 from 2 - 5 PM with prayers being said at 3:00 PM. James Ignatius "Jim" Owens, 85, of Leonardtown, MD formerly of Abell, MD died October 25, 2006 in Leonardtown, MD. Born February 9, 1921 in Abell, MD he was the son of the late William Lee and Catherine Russell Owens. He was the loving husband of Evelyn May Welty whom he married in Holy Comforter Church, Washington, DC on November 27, 1943. He is survived by his son: James Michael Owens of Maddox, MD; sisters: Irma Hodges of Leonardtown, MD and Lois Morris of Avenue, MD; 1 grandchild and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother: William Owens and sister: Annie Russell. Mr. Owens was a life long St. Mary's County resident where attended Holy Angels School until the 8th grade. He worked as a machinist for the Naval Air Test Center Technical Support Division for 21 years until his retirement in December of 1973. He served in the U.S. Navy for 3 years from November 23, 1942 – November 6, 1945. He served in WWII and received a Master at Arms certificate and his rating was Cox; BM2c. Jim was a member of the D.A.V. organization. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 29, 2006 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home with Prayers being said at 3:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on October 30, 2006 at 11:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Bill Nickerson officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Bushwood, MD. Pallbearers will be: Lee Russell, Tucker Lacey, Bill Owens, Robert Mattingly, Karen Lacey and Michelle Owens.
