John Roland Neal, Sr. was called to eternal rest on March 31, 2022, peacefully at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Roland was born on March 20, 1937, in Dentsville, MD to the late Mary Theresa (Boarman) Neale and Joseph Sidney Neale. He was the fourteenth of sixteen children.

Roland was a life-long resident of Charles County and moved to Bryans Road in 1967. He was educated in the Charles County Public School System. Roland worked on the family farm prior to entering the construction industry. He worked many years for the Galantines and W. T. Hinton and became a heavy equipment operator in 1962. Then, he started his own company, Neal Excavating in 1980 and remained self-employed until his retirement in 2019. Roland was passionate about running his bulldozer and hauling loads for his clients. He was so dedicated that he would work sunup, to sundown, and would even finish jobs by using the lights on the bulldozer if inclement weather was expected.
