Catherine Elaine Cratty passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on February 4, 2022 with her husband, Benjamin, of sixty-six years by her side. Catherine, known as Elaine, went to be with her Lord at the age of 85, was born in Washington DC and predeceased by her parents James and Catherine Pessagno. Lovingly remembered by her children Catherine Verbeten (d.Jeff), Thomas (Martha), Cynthia Comproni (Joseph), Christine Dotson (Douglas), Stephen (gf Lisa Wood), Kenneth (Deanna) and Timothy (Janet). Also survived by eighteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, her siblings Patricia Firestein (Albert) and J. Marty Pessagno (Joan), loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and long time friends.

Elaine was a devoted wife and mother who sourced her strength and guidance from her Catholic faith. She was committed to the sanctity of marriage enjoying a life long love affair with her husband Benjamin, "Buster". Understanding the importance of having an individual relationship with each of her seven children she never failed to fulfill their needs receiving the Love and Honor she deserved in return. Grandchildren were a daily presence in Elaine's life bringing her immense joy, love and the brightest smile.

She was a long-time volunteer at St. Mary's of Landover Hills, MD where her children attended school. She pioneered the physical education program at the school which became a great success. She was also a talented crafter, decorator, seamstress and most especially cook.

Elaine found serenity at her home on the Chesapeake Bay at Calvert Cliffs. She loved the majestic view of the bay she woke up to each morning. She engaged her community of family and friends enjoying the endless activities the waterfront had to offer.

Elaine, Mom, Grandmom's legacy will be one of eternal love for Buster, her commitment and love for her family, her faith and selflessness in the service of others. Grief is the price of love. She has taken a little piece of our souls with her and we will carry a little piece of hers with cherished memories, honor, grace and love everlasting.

Private services will be held. The family invites friends to join them in a Celebration of Life in May 2022. Date to be determined.
