Joseph Stanley Dziewit Jr., 87 of Lexington Park, MD passed away peacefully on Thursday February 3, 2022 with his family at his side.

He was born on December 13, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Joseph Stanley Dziewit and Stella Chelkowski Dziewit.

Joe was raised on Terrace Street in Philadelphia, PA. He worked his first job at the age of 11 and had various jobs throughout his younger years - selling newspapers, setting pins at a bowling alley, and working at the local gas station.

In1955 he enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country as an aviation electronics technician Chief Petty Officer until his honorable discharge in 1978.

Joe married his beloved wife, Pauline Henry Dziewit on September 27, 1958. Together they celebrated over 61 wonderful years of marriage before her death in 2020. They traveled the world together, raised 4 children, and enjoyed numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He earned many degrees including a Master's of Science in Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He was a CPR and First Aid Instructor as well as a Water Safety Instructor and an Instructor Trainer for swimming, canoeing, sailing, and lifeguarding. Joe was also a Girl Scout Troop leader and enjoyed taking his troop on numerous adventures to New York City, Atlantic City, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Washington DC and an annual weekend ski trip to Ski Liberty.

Joe loved the waters around St. Mary's County where he taught many county residents to swim, canoe, and sail. He also enjoyed time on the water with his family - boating, waterskiing, scuba diving and jet skiing. His love of the water was exceeded only by his love of flying. Joe shared his passion for flying by instructing hundreds of students, and amassing tens of thousands of flight hours. He ran the Patuxent River Navy Flying Club for over 20 years.

Joe was an active member of several religious and fraternal organizations, which included the Knights of Columbus.

Joe is survived by his four children: Laura Kennedy (Michael) of Moyock, NC, Clarissa Dziewit of Lexington Park, MD, Joseph Dziewit III (Brenda) of Destin, FL, and Paul Dziewit (Peggy) of Valley Lee, MD. In addition to his children he is survived by his siblings, Anne Lavin of Collegeville, PA, Walter Devitt (Maureen) of Drexel Hill, PA, and Edward Dziewit (Kathleen) of Conway, SC. Joe is also survived by his four grandchildren: Kristi Sinclair (Bob), Christopher Kennedy (Ashley), Matthew Petit (Kimberly), Elizabeth Petit; and four great grandchildren; and many more extended family and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, parents and sibling, Helen Dziewit.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a prayer service at 12:00 PM, at Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Services will also be held at Karcsh Funeral Home in Philadelphia, PA on Friday, February 11, 2022 followed by interment in Westminster Cemetery.
