James E. (Jimmy) Groves of Huntingtown, MD (formerly of Lusby, MD) passed away at his home on January 26, 2022 at the age of 91.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Loretta (Cleary) Groves, his son-law Marty Spelman, his granddaughter Alyssa (Spelman) Hall and her husband Joseph (Joe) Hall.

He leaves behind 4 daughters: Cynthia Miller (Mark Todd), Susan (Su) Crutchfield (Alan), Diane Spelman and Linda Gregory (Richard); grandchildren Tim and Lori Miller, Tommy and Michelle Miller, Christie and Justin Barrick, Michael Gregory and Camille Leclerc-Gregory, Mary Spelman (Joel Garner) and Jon Crutchfield; and great-grandchildren Brooke, Morgan and Olivia Miller, Thomas and Madison Miller, Cody Hise, Jr. and Maya and Emma Garner, Maryssa and Aireonna Hall, Lillian, Macayla and Austen Barrick and 4 month old Theo Gregory, as well as countless relatives in the Groves, Cleary and Ellmore families.

Jimmy enjoyed trivia, crossword puzzles, Western movies, and watching golf, bowling and the Washington baseball and football teams. He was a gifted musician, singing and playing lead guitar for the army band, The Buckskins and with many groups in the Washington DC area.

He had the privilege of meeting and playing with local musicians who went on to successful careers in Nashville and Hollywood, including Danny Gatton, Charlie Daniels, Roy Clark and Jimmy Dean, who remained a life-long friend until his death in 2010. Jimmy especially loved to share stories of his musical adventures with friends and family, and he could hardly pass a guitar without picking it up and playing a few of his famous "hot licks".

Memorial services will be private. Condolences for the family may be sent in c/o Su Crutchfield, PO Box 1111, North Beach, MD 20714 and donations may be made in his name to Calvert Hospice: https://calverthospice.org
