Douglas Browning, 84, of Lexington Park, MD passed away on January 11, 2009 at Washington Hospital Center. He was born in Verner, WV on September 8, 1924 to the late Owen Browning and Lizzie Runyon Browning.

He enlisted in the United States Navy in June 1943, and served as Aviation Ordnanceman at NAS Patuxent River, MD. His career continued at Patuxent River as a civil servant working in Ordnance, Photography and Electronics at Armament Test, Weapons Systems Test, and Technical Support Division. He logged hundreds of hours yearly, flying in numerous military aircraft performing flight test sorties on various systems.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Agnes (Mattingly) Browning; his daughter, Lois Ann Coryell and her husband, Neil; his son, John Douglas (Sonny) Browning, and his wife, Marge; his daughter, Mary Lynn Hammett, and her husband, Ray; and his daughter, Joyce Michele Spadarella, and her husband, Tony.

He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; as well as his sisters, Hattie Johnson and Mila Blankinship.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings; Gilford, Clayborn, Emmett, Lois, and Marie.

The family will receive friends for Mr. Browning's Life Celebration on Thursday , January 15, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 16, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 22375 Three Notch Road, Lexington Park, MD. Reverend Jack Kennealy will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
