John Benjamin George of Prince Frederick, MD died January 3, 2009. He was born September 25, 1918 in Ravanna, Missouri, the son of John Benjamin Raymond and Ora Bowers George.
He received a bachelors degree, Suma Cum Laude, from Princeton University. He also studied at Oxford University in 1949 and 1954 in studies related to residence and study in East Africa. He rose in grade from private to Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army during WWII,. serving as infantry unit commander in Guadalcanal and the North Burma campaigns. He had a varied international career as an Africanist, association executive, conservationist and writer, as well as working in civil service with the Departments of State and Interior. Mr. George is survived by his wife Dorothea Anne Szameitat George, whom he married in 1965. Arrangements provided by Rausch Funeral Home. |
