Ila Kathryn "Kathy" Healy, 73, of Abell, MD passed away on August 16th, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on December 28, 1947 on Castle Air Force Base, Merced, CA to the late Warren Washington Hawks and Carrie June Priode Hawks who preceded her in death.

After beginning life on a series of military bases, in 1957, the Hawks family settled in Prince George, VA. Kathy graduated from Prince George High School in 1966. At the age of twenty she married PGHS alum Oliver "Mac" Holder and immediately adopted his two young children from a previous marriage. Then Kathy and Mac welcomed a son to complete their family.

When that marriage ended, Kathy, as a single mother, worked full time at CSC as a technical writer and often worked part time evenings and weekends to make sure her children had all they needed. Yet she still managed to attend all the kids games and special events. Then, to further her career, she started night classes toward her Bachelor's degree and graduated from Saint Leo's College at Fort Lee in 1992.

On May 29, 1993, Kathy married the love of her life, Jerry E. Healy in Prince George, VA. Together they celebrated 28 years of marriage. They found a house in Maryland on the water, Kathy's favorite environment, and together they turned that house into a home and a recreation spot which they shared generously with family and friends.

Kathy took art classes to revive her childhood interest and created wonderful paintings illustrating the beauty around her. She was just as artistic in her gardening - nurturing flowers, ferns or fruit to grow in old shoes, pots and other original vessels. With inexhaustible energy, she could either work or play all day and still put together a beautiful, delicious seafood dinner that night for their numerous visitors.

A fiercely loyal friend with a magnetic personality, Kathy drew people to her in attachments that lasted lifetimes. Even more friendships were made and adventures had in the Florida Keys when Jerry retired and he and Kathy took up the RV-life every winter, becoming "snow-birds."

Kathy bravely fought the cancer that invaded her body, but her health deteriorated within months. Jerry took loving care of her to the end.

In addition to her beloved husband, Jerry, she is also survived by her children: John "Tom" Holder (Melissa) of Chesterfield, VA, Kimberly A. Kern of Crittenden, KY, Warren "Scott" Holder of Hopewell, VA, Jerry Healy Jr. (Rhanta) of Circle Pines, MN, and Christopher Healy (Cory) of Circle Pines, MN; her siblings: Mickey L. Branham (Johnny) of Haysi, VA, Elizabeth H. Bishop (Darrel) of Wichita, KS, Virginia Hawks of Petersburg, VA, Jerri P. Shannon (Jimmy) and Susan H. Carney of Winchester, VA; her grandchildren: Ryan Thomas Holder, Jackie Singleton, Dillon Kern, Zachary Kern, Addison Holder, Anna Healy, Robbie Healy, Sama, Micheal Healy, Cassio Healy, Rys Healy, and Kaden Healy; great grandchildren: McKenna Singleton, Jensen Singleton, and Nolan Thomas Holder; and many extended family and friends.

The family would like to give special thanks to Theresa Waldron, from Hospice of St Mary's, for the skill, support and kindness she rendered to Kathy, Jerry and the family.

All services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to any charity dedicated to a cure for cancer.
