![]() Doris Elizabeth Hammett, 84, of Coltons Point, MD died December 25, 2008 in Washington Hospital Center. Born October 3, 1924 in Hollywood, MD she was the daughter of the late Joseph Glen and Mary Berlean Wallace.
She was preceded in death by her husband Louis V. Hammett whom she married on December 23, 1943 in Hollywood, MD. She is survived by her children: Anthony Hammett and his wife Margaret of Coltons Point, MD, Robin Hammett and his wife Ruth of Clements, MD, Frannie Ramey and her husband Steve of Chaptico, MD, Darlene Graves and her husband Tommy of Leonardtown, MD, Michael Hammett of Mechanicsville, MD, Terry Gibbons and her husband Jimmy of Charlotte Hall, MD and George Hammett and his wife Laura of Loris, SC; sister Agnes Lorraine Bailey of Hollywood, MD; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was also was preceded in death by her siblings: Joseph Freeman Wallace, Eleanor Strobel, James Elwood Wallace, Mary Idola Sturm, Frances Brawley, Anne Jeanette Collins, Richard Aloysius Wallace and Nancy Lee Farrell. Mrs. Hammett was a lifelong St. Mary's County resident where she worked as a switchboard operator for St. Mary's County Government for 12 years until her retirement on June 30, 1990. She was also a retired switchboard operator for C&P Telephone Company and member of the Telephone Company Pioneers as well as a member of the 7th District Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 10:00 AM in Holy Angels Catholic Church with Fr. William Gurnee officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be: Steve Copp, Keith LaPinas, Thomas Stone, IV, Pete Ricardo Powell, Richard Graves, II, Geoff Hammett, Chris Hammett and Adam Gibbons. Honorary Pallbearers will be the 7th District Volunteer Ladies Auxiliary. Contributions may be made to the 7th District Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O.
