Alberta Bernice Atlee Lee, 89, the seventh of twelve children, born to the late Charles W. Atlee Sr. and the late Mabel I. Atlee on December 6, 1919 in Bryans Road, Maryland.

A resident of Charles County, Maryland, Alberta received her education in the Charles County Public Schools. At an early age she was nurtured in the Methodist Church and attended Sunday school and church at the Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church in Pomonkey, Maryland.

She moved to Washington, DC where she met and married John L. Lee, July 3, 1941. From this union four sons were born. John and Alberta were married 67 years this pass July 3, 2008. Upon relocating to Washington, DC she never forgot her love for God and the church and united with the Ebenezer Methodist Church in Washington, DC.

Alberta was employed in the office of the District Courts, of the District Government and retired after 30 years of service in 1980.

After retirement she returned to Bryans Road, Maryland and re-united with Metropolitan Untied Methodist Church, where she was an active and faithful member, serving as communion stewardness. Alberta was a quiet and gentle person, always ready to lend a helping hand. She loved to cook and bake and enjoyed working in the yard with her flowers. Alberta loved the Lord, her family and church and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

Peacefully, she was called to her eternal home at the Civista Medical Center in La Plata, Maryland, on Monday, December 22, 2008 at 3:46 pm.

In addition to her parents, Alberta is preceded in death by two sons, John Calvin Lee (Butch) and Sterling Lee.

Her love and memories will be cherished by her husband, John L. Lee, three sons, Lowell Atlee, Steven Lee and James (Jimmie) Lee, nine grandchildren, Cynthia A. Lee, Anita Lee, Sheree Lee Breeding, Steven Lee, Jr., David E. Lee, Elliott Lee, Marcus Lee, Maurice Lee and Jimmy Forgel, seven great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, two brothers, Charles W. Atlee Jr. and Lawrence Atlee, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Viewing, Saturday, December 27, 2008, 9:30am until Home Going Service, 11:00 am at Metropolitan United Methodist Church, 3385 Metropolitan Church Road, Indian Head Maryland. Interment, Church Cemetery.
