Hilda Steiner, 93, of Lexington Park, MD, passed away May 3, 2021 at her home with her family at her side.

She was born on January 11, 1928, in New York City, NY to the late Frank Polzer and Mary Kedl Polzer.

On July 13, 1947 Hilda married her beloved husband, Herman in New York City. Together they celebrated over 49 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in April 1997. She was employed as a dedicated and thorough bookkeeper at the University of Maryland until her retirement. As the matriarch of the family, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and a faithful Catholic. She enjoyed traveling; some of her favorite travels included trips to Alaska, Australia and New Zealand. Together, she and her husband enjoyed dancing and socializing. They also loved road trips, especially in their RV and were known as the "Roadrunners." Playing the slots at the casinos was a favorite pastime. Lady luck followed her, as she always came home with more than she started. She was a longtime member of the Red Hat Society and was awarded her Purple Hat on her 90th birthday. She was an avid card player. She also enjoyed games like Yahtzee and Racko, and putting together jigsaw puzzles as a family. Fondue and game night was a special activity she always looked forward to. She had a terrific sense of humor, and enjoyed the shows by the Port Tobacco Players and the Newtowne Players.

Hilda is survived by her children: Raymond Steiner (Ann) of Upper Marlboro, MD, Edward "Ed" Steiner (Anne) of Callaway, MD; Steven Steiner (Kellie) of Eugene, OR and Thomas Steiner of Houston, TX; her grandchildren: Marjorie Collins, Jennifer Meisinger, Joseph Steiner, Nathaniel Steiner, Victoria Steiner, Andrea Steiner, Michael Steiner, Colin Marsh, Shane Steiner, and Samantha Steiner; her great-grandchildren: Jacob, Fiona, Lila, Maia, and Fen; and extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Herman Joseph Steiner.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 22375 Three Notch Road, Lexington Park, MD 20653. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Marco Schad at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD.
