James Walter Wheeler, 61 of Lexington Park, MD surrounded by his loving family went to be with his heavenly Father on April 11, 2021.

Walter was born on February 2, 1960 in Leonardtown, MD to Martha Elaine (Wood) and Bernard Wheeler of Callaway, MD.

Walter married Kathy Trossbach Wheeler on October 25, 1986 in Ridge, MD. He and Kathy were blessed with four children. Walter was a Boat Rigger for Cedar Cove Marina until he became disabled from a broken neck on December 19,1991. Even after 8 neck surgeries, he was an amazing father and grandfather who cherished his time as a stay at home dad. Walter's family was everything to him. He was known as "Poppy" by his grandchildren whom he would do anything for just to make them smile. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, traveling, (it didn't matter where) and cheering on his favorite NASCAR racer #18 Kyle Bush. Walter loved the Lord and was a member of Patuxent Baptist Church, where he got saved, and baptized in January of 2017. Walter was one of the most loving, unselfish men you would ever meet and he will be deeply missed by everyone that knew him.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his cherished family, his wife, Kathy; his children, Jami Lachkovic (Jonathan) of Lexington Park, MD, James Wheeler II "Jay" (Staci), of Lexington Park, MD, Christopher Wheeler (Nicole) of California, MD, Jessica Wheeler (Jordan) of Lexington Park, MD.

His siblings, Joe Wheeler (Jan) of St. Inigoes, MD, Robert Wheeler (Marion) of Indian Head, and Patty Thomas (Larry) of Lexington Park, MD.

His grandchildren, whom he cherished, Brianna, Natalie, Emily, Isabella, Brandie, Tamya, Jaylen, Mackenzee, James III, Hayden, Charlie, Anthony, Zion, Jordan Jr., and Rylee.

Along with 17 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and his brother, Mike Wheeler and his nephew Charlie Wheeler.
