Helen M. Safford, 76, of Georgetown, DE passed away February 16, 2021 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE. Helen was born September 13, 1944 in Calvert County to Marian Helen (Paddy) and James Bruce Lyons, Jr. She was raised in Calvert County, and graduated from Calvert High School. She was employed as a secretary at Andrews Air Force Base where she met and later married Richard Morris who was stationed there. After their marriage they lived in Ohio for several years, later returning to Calvert County where they lived on her family's farm in Chesapeake Beach. Helen was a homemaker raising her family, and was later employed at Pop Brown's furniture store in North Beach, and at Abner's Crab House and Italia by the Bay restaurant, and for many years tended bar at the Stallings-Williams American Legion Post in Chesapeake Beach where she was a member of the Auxiliary. She also worked as a secretary for the Prince George's County Police Department until her retirement. Helen moved to Florida for several years in the early 2000's where she was an active member of the Red Hat Society. She loved being at the beach, all things nautical, and was fond of cardinal birds and magnolia trees. For the past nine years she has lived in Delaware.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, siblings James B. "Jimmy" Lyons III, Gloria M. Wacker, and Morris Edward "Eddie" Lyons, and her longtime companion Ed Wedler. She is survived by daughters Tamara L. "Tammy" Dilly and husband John of Chesapeake Beach, Teresa D. "Tracy" Safford of Georgetown, DE, sons Shayne P. Safford of Shepherdstown, WV, and Jay R. Cleary of Huntingtown; grandchildren Robert, Teresa, Hunter, Hayden, Hudson, Harrison, Amber, and Nora; great-grandchildren Abigail, Seth, and Bryce; a sister Judy A. Leonard and husband George "Billy" of Saint Cloud, FL, and a brother R. Michael Lyons, Sr. and wife Maryann of Chesapeake Beach. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
