George Magee Longfellow, 95, of Lexington Park, MD died December 8, 2008 in St. Mary's Nursing Center.

Born August 12, 1913 in Richmond, VA, he was the son of the late John Gilman Longfellow and Mary Bettie Magee.

Mr. Longfellow spent almost thirty years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam Conflict. During his time served, Mr. Longfellow received numerous medals and honors including a Five Star Air Medal, four Bronze Stars, and four Gold Stars. He was a Master Mason and a 32nd degree Shriner. Following his service in the Marine Corps, he was a flight engineer for the Shilleadaghs Flying Club. In his free time, Mr. Longfellow enjoyed working in his garden and on his cars.

He is survived by his daughters, Robin June Longfellow of Jacksonville, FL and Judith Anne Longfellow-Wallace of Lexington Park, MD, three grandchildren; Cynthia Gibbons of Jacksonville, FL, Jennifer Hawse of Prince George, VA and Brian Baker of Lexington Park, MD, great grandchildren; Alexandra and Victoria Gibbons of Jacksonville, FL, Devon and Dakota Rebarchick of Prince George, VA, sisters; Mary Brown of Warren, OH and Martha Whited of Dayton, OH. He was preceded in death by his wife, June, sisters; Priscilla Johnson, and Virginia Sherman, and brothers; Harry and Elmer Longfellow.

Family received friends for George's Life Celebration on Thursday, December 11, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. A Funeral Service was conducted at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be on January 30, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
