A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 9, 2006 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady's Catholic Church with Fr. LaHood officating.Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Viewing/Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2006 from 5:00-8:00PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home with Prayers being said at 7:00 PM. James William "Willy or Gator" Swales, 55, of Great Mills, MD and formerly of Leonardtown, MD died November 3, 2006 in Great Mills, MD. Born September 3, 1951 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late James Walter Milburn and Mary Elizabeth Swales. He was the loving husband of Agnes Butler whom he married in the Leonardtown Courthouse on January 10, 2006. He is survived by his children: William & Sharisse Swales and Regina Mason all of Lexington Park, MD; brothers and sisters: Joseph Aloysius Swales of Great Mills, MD, John Arthur Swales of Lexington Park, MD, Theresa Ann King of Upper Marlboro, MD and Mary Doris Swales of California, MD and 7 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers: James Walter and Joseph Paul Swales. Mr. Swales was a life long St. Mary's County resident where he attended Chopticon High School. He worked for 35 years as a laborer for United Masonry in Alexandria, VA. His hobbies included going to the race track, watching football and spending time with his grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 8, 2006 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, with Prayers being said at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 9, 2006 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady's Catholic Church, Leonardtown, MD with Fr. La Hood officiating and Fr. Damian Shadwell co-officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sherman Harrod, James Kelly, Joseph Adams, Roger A., Victor Thomas and John B. Swales. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hardin Brooks, Joseph Thomas, Joseph C. Swales, Walter Swales, Phillip Swales, Joseph Young and John Somerville. Contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary's, P.O.
