Bessie Naomi Scaggs, 88, of Owings passed away October 27, 2020. She was born May 23, 1932 in Prince Frederick to Maurice and Elsie (Coleman) McCready. Bessie was raised in Lusby and graduated from Calvert High School. She married William Richard "Dickie" Scaggs on May 23, 1953 and lived on the Scaggs family farm in Owings. Bessie was a member of Lower Marlboro United Methodist Church and in her spare time, enjoyed bowling, gardening, and traveling.

Bessie was preceded in death by her husband Dickie in 2000, son Carlos R. Scaggs, and granddaughter Amy Scaggs. She is survived by her sons Alan "Buddy" Scaggs and his wife Cindy and Kenneth R. Scaggs and his wife Kay, all of Owings. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson.
