Gloria Jean Schmidt, 79, of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on October 23, 2020 at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.

Born on November 13. 1941 in Bryan, TX, she was the daughter of the late Loyd Strickland and Ethyl Pauline Spooner (Duncan).

Jean married her beloved husband, Lewis Arno Schmidt, Sr., on June 16, 1958 and together they spent 62 blissful years of marriage. They welcomed 4 beautiful children into their family, and eventually they blessed them with 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Jean graduated from high school and went on to work as a hair stylist until her retirement. She loved her dolls, sewing and cooking meals for her family and friends. She enjoyed spending days relaxing and cruising or testing her luck playing the slots. Jean's favorite way to spend her time though, was surrounded by her friend and family, whom she loved.

Jean is survived by her husband, Lewis Arno Schmidt, Sr., her son, Lewis Arno Schmidt, Jr., her daughters: Deborah Jean Miller, Lorrie Anne Eveson and Michelle Marsha Jean Schmidt, her brother, George Edwin Spooner, Jr. (Chris), her sisters: Carolyn Ruth Rose, Cheryl Lyn Smith, Christine Elaine Ireson (Stan), as well as 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her step-father, George Edwin Spooner, and her sister, Susan Darnell Holland.

Family will receive friends for visitation Friday, October 30, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 31, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
