Donald Edward Richards, 91, of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on Friday, September 25, 2020, at his home.

He was born on December 21, 1928 to the late G. Edward "Eddie" Richards and Esther (Gemeny) Richards in Washington, DC.

Donald was married to the love of his life, Evelyn Oliver Richards for over sixty-six (66) years before her passing on June 24, 2018. There was not a day that he didn't remember his beautiful bride.

He was a hard-working man, who cherished his family. He worked as an Engraver in defense mapping for the US Government until his retirement. He was proud of his strong work ethic and passed these traits onto his own children and grandchildren. He loved to hear the laughter and see the smiles of his family as they gathered.

A meticulous man he could spend hours working in his shop restoring antique furniture and woodworking. He saw the beauty in the scuffed and damaged wood and found pride in the restoration. He leaves many treasured pieces for his family. Donald also enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and being able to share the bountiful crop.

They say the true legacy of man is through the eyes of his family. If you knew him as Donald, Dad or Uncle Donald, you know he was a happy, friendly, kind, and caring man. A great father and grandfather who will be missed for generations.

Donald is survived by his children, Kevin E. Richards of Hollywood, MD, Donna L. Richards of Reston, VA and Karen E. Friedman of Newport News, VA and three (3) grandchildren and three (3) great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and extended family. Along with his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his loving wife, Evelyn.

At this time all services will be private.
