A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 10, 2006 at 10:00 AM in the Hollywood Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Tim Grose officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Viewing/Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2006 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM.

Andrew Latelle "Tell" Thompson, 95, of Hollywood, MD died November 7, 2006 at his home, Manning's Purchase Farm, Vista Road, Hollywood, MD. Born October 3, 1911 at home, Briscoe Thompson Farm, Hollywood, MD he was the son of the late Philip Briscoe and Daisy Catherine Jones Thompson. For 68 years he was the loving husband of Edna Elizabeth Dean Thompson whom he married on November 27, 1937 in Hollywood, MD.

He is survived by his children: Timothy R. Thompson of Laurel Grove, Barbara E. Waldroupe of Sedalia, MO, Rodney Thompson and Jerry Thompson both of Hollywood, MD; siblings: Daisy Pegg of Lexington Park, MD, John B. Thompson and Naomi Fowler both of Hollywood, MD and Juanita Modlin of California, MD; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his siblings: Roscoe Thompson, Jones Thompson, Lamen Thompson, Isabel Nielsen, Mavis Sweeney and Ruth Joy.

Mr. Thompson was a life long St. Mary's County resident where he was an employee of the federal government. He enjoyed being a waterman and a cattle farmer and was a member of the Hereford Association. Tell Thompson will be remembered by his family and those who knew him as an unassuming gentleman with a quiet sense of humor who loved His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was an active member of the Hollywood Church of the Nazarene for over 70 years. He was a self educated man who owned and operated several businesses through the years, including an auction barn, trailer rental, dry cleaning, oystering, grocery store and general merchandise. Tell was reputed to be the best oyster-tonger to come out of Sotterley Creek. He and his brother Jones would often sing hymns as they oystered together out on the river. Other oysterman would lay down their tongs to listen as the sweet harmonies of the Thompson brothers carried across the water.

Always community minded, Tell housed the first headquarters of the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department in his cattle barn on Hollywood-Leonardtown Road (Rt. 245). Tell loved working outdoors, especially on the family farm on Vista Road in Hollywood. The day before he died, he was doing what he loved best—mowing the fields on his riding lawn mower.

He came to know the Lord as a young man in his 20's when he went with his buddies to a revival tent-meeting being held at the Hollywood Church of the Nazarene. They went to see if they could start some trouble, but Latelle couldn't help listening to the evangelist preaching. The Lord saved him that night and he became an active member of the Hollywood Church of the Nazarene for the next 70 years.

"Just let me know if you see anything that hurts your eyes" Latelle would say to anyone who stopped to admire his land. At the age of 90, Latelle had a dream which affected him and all who heard about it. He dreamed of walking on a shinning path that led to heaven's gates, where he was greeted by the Lord Jesus with the words, "Well done, my child! We've been watching over you." Latelle wanted everyone to know the free gift of forgiveness through Jesus Christ. "Get on the path! It's worth your while!" he said.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 9, 2006 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 10, 2006 at 10:00 AM in the Hollywood Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Tim Grose officiating along with Rev. Philip Thompson, Rev. Joseph L. Hoopengardner from the United Methodist Church and Rev. David Sparks all co-officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Steve Miller, Tony Evans, Steve Porter, Jamey Thompson, Andrew Thompson and Wade Thompson. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Cheri Thompson Miller, Michele Thompson Evans, Jeri Lynne Thompson Porter, Jonnie Thompson, Gayle Thompson Kelly and Leah Thompson Menard.
