Grace Jean Simpson, 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Waldorf, Maryland on Sunday, July 5, 2020 surrounded by her family.

Born September 8, 1929 on the Ullman family farm in Waldorf, Maryland, she was the youngest of 11 children of Charles J. and Grace Winkler Ullman. Jean, also known as Aunt Jean, Granny, and Grandma, was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She married Joseph Mortimer Simpson on February 8, 1947 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Pomfret, Maryland and was a lifelong parishioner. Together they raised three children – Ida, Arthur, and Francis. Jean and Mort made their living growing tobacco on the Simpson family farm.

Jean is survived by her children, Ida Schofield (Tom), Arthur Simpson (Valerie), and Francis Simpson (Brenda); grandchildren Tommy, Katie, Connie, Nicholas, and Dale; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Joseph Mortimer, and her siblings, Edith Middleton, Tony Ullman, Ed Ullman, Mary Clements, Burtice Ullman, Leo Ullman, Mose Ullman, Adrian Ullman, Claude Ullman, and Barbara Duffy.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 10am in the Church Social Hall of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 4590 St. Joseph Way, Pomfret, Maryland 20675. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11am in the Church celebrated by Rev. Harry Stokes, Jr. Interment to follow in the Church cemetery. Immediately following interment, fellowship will be held in the Church Social Hall. FACE MASKS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL SERVICES AND SOCIAL DISTANCING IS TO BE OBSERVED WITH LIMITED ATTENDANCE.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Simpson, Katie Simpson, Connie Ehrhart, Nicholas Simpson, Dale Simpson, and Claude Ullman, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 4590 St. Joseph Way, Pomfret, MD 20675, or Hospice of Charles County, 2505 Davis Road, Waldorf, MD 20603.
