Hazel DeSilva Kennedy Ramos, 89 of Lexington Park, MD and formerly of New Orleans, LA died November 22, 2008 at her residence.

Born February 9, 1919 in New Orleans, LA, she was the daughter of the late Matthew James and Hazel Catherine DeSilva Kennedy, Jr.

She was the loving wife of John Ramos, Jr. of Lexington Park, MD and whom she married on February 7, 1953 in Holy Face Church, Great Mills, MD.

She is also survived by her children; John Ramos III of Oakdale, CT, Hazel Catherine Ramos Reece of Kona, HI, Frances Augusta Ramos Verbruggen of Portland, OR and Mary Anne Ramos of Baltimore, MD. She is also survived by her brother John Kennedy of Fairfax, VA and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her siblings; Margaret Kennedy, Matthew Kennedy and Sr. Gloria Laboure.

Hazel graduated from Eleanor McMain High School, New Orleans, "Class of 1935" and Margaret G. Hanson Normal School, New Orleans, "Class of 1937", Tulane University of Louisiana, New Orleans with a Bachelor of Arts from the Division for Teachers "Class of 1942" and University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, with a Master of Science in Mathematics "Class of 1948". She moved to St. Mary's County in the late 1940's from New Orleans and was an algebra and geometry teacher at St. Mary's Academy in Leonardtown, MD for twenty years, retiring in June, 1981.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, with Prayers being said at 6:45 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 10:00 AM in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Lexington Park, MD with Fr. Jack Kennealy officiating. Interment will follow in Maryland Veteran's Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD at 12:00 PM. Pallbearers will be her brother John Kennedy, her son John Ramos III, her son-in-law Robert Bowden, and her daughters Hazel Ramos Reece, Frances Ramos Verbruggen and Mary Ramos.
