Geraldine "Gerry" Beatrice Jenness, 94, of Mechanicsville, MD departed this life on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Calvert County Nursing Center.

She was born on January 14, 1926 in Washington, DC, Maryland to the late Delbert Bryan Haynes and Ella (Blandford) Haynes.

Gerry met and fell head over heals for Peter B. Jenness. Together they made a wonderful couple and shared many years of wedded bliss before his passing in 1970. Gerry never married again, as she felt she'd found her one true love in Peter.

Gerry was a wonderful woman who always had a bright smile, a strong will and caring heart. She adored her family above all. Although she was never a mother, she had many nieces and nephews she loved as if they were her own "children". Gerry always made sure they all knew how much she loved them.

A natural born caregiver, Gerry would do anything out of the kindness of her heart. She once helped a young couple who'd just had a baby and broke down on the side of the road. She drove them out of her way to get a battery and then back to finally help install it. She never asked for compensation, just a thank you and she went on her way. There are many stories of her unwavering willingness to help others. She was a caretaker for many people who just needed a little extra hand.

She was a sassy woman with a back bone of steel. She never asked for help herself, choosing to handle everything independently. She prided herself on being a woman of strength and confidence. She could fix her car, mow her own grass and snuggle babies, whatever the day called for. Family was everything to Gerry and if you knew her, you were family.

A great woman has made her way to heaven. She will be missed by many, but none as much as her family. Gerry is happy, healthy and soaring in heaven with Peter. She has a Miller High Life in one hand and Peter's in the other, smiling down upon her family.

Gerry is survived by her brother, Robert D. Haynes of Clinton, MD; four (4) sisters-in-law, Maxine Haynes, Jeannie Haynes, Joan Haynes and Dorothy Haynes; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Jaqueline Huffman, James Haynes, Paul Haynes, and Charles "Jerome" Haynes.

The family will be having a Life Celebration on Monday, June 15, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. also at the Funeral Home and officiated by Deacon Bill Kyte from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will follow immediately at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman Beantown Road, Waldorf, MD 20601.
