Rudolph (Rudy) John Baliko of Valley Lee, MD passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 27, 2020 after a brief illness.

Born on November 20, 1939 to the late Rudolph Baliko, Sr. and Marie Baumann Baliko in New York City, Rudy attended PS47 elementary school and Henry Hudson Junior High. He attended James Monroe High School in the Bronx and transferred to North Hunterdon Regional High in Annandale, NJ where he played football, ran track, and graduated in 1957.

Rudy was accepted into Paul Smith's College and earned an Associate's degree in Pre-Professional Forestry and later attended University of Maine where he graduated with his Bachelor's degree in Forestry in 1961. Later that year, he was drafted into the United States Army, completing basic training at Fort Dix. Trained in missile repair and maintenance at the US Ordinance Ballistic Missile School at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL, Rudy was stationed in Nichorsolm, Germany and White Sands, NM. He completed his service after two years with an honorable discharge in July 1963.

In 1964, Rudy began his career as a forester with the state of Maryland at the St. Mary's County Department of Forest Service. In 1971 Rudy started his own private business, proudly serving as a Consulting Forester to clients in MD, VA, DE, and WV until recent months.

Rudy married Peg Jette Baliko on May 23, 1964 sharing 56 years together as the proud parents of five children.

While raising his children, Rudy was active with Little Flower School, St. Mary's Ryken, and Leonardtown High where his children attended. He was also an active member of the St. George Catholic Church for over 50 years as a lector, Eucharistic minister, usher, and assisted the pastor with funeral services.

Rudy was a member of the American Forest Association, American Tree Farm Institution, Forest Landowners Association, Maryland Forests Association, St. Mary's County Agriculture Seafood and Forestry Commission, and the Society of American Foresters.

Rudy is survived by his wife, Peg, of Valley Lee, 3 sons, Christopher (Allison) of Bethel, CT, Eric (Heidi) of Charleston, SC, Ryan of Colorado Springs, CO; and one daughter, Janelle of California, MD. Rudy is also survived by five grandchildren: Jacob, Mason, Madeleine, Calvin, and Lily, his cousins Anna Olownia (Stan) and Eugene Gansfuss (Cathy), and many special nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Anna (November 1943) and his son, Tyree John (February 1970).

A private graveside service will be held at St. George's Catholic Cemetery, Valley Lee, MD.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date at St. George's Catholic Church in Valley Lee, MD.
