Arline Ethel Johns Chesley, 78 years old, was born in Philadelphia, PA to James Aaron Johns, Sr. and Margret Ethel Boggs Johns (both deceased). Arline, her brother, James "Jimmy" Johns, Jr. and sister, Patricia "Patsy" Chesley moved to MD in 1947. Arline, although a year older than Patsy attended the same class throughout school because during that time, you were held back a year if you moved from PA to MD. They both graduated together in 1960. Arline attended Cosmetology School and was a Licensed Hairstylist Manager.

Arline was married to Carroll Chesley but their union dissolved after several years.

She worked as a stylist for several shops, including Stardust and Blue Haven. Arline had a special gift for helping others. She adored dancing and singing. She bought her home in 1978 and loved cooking and keeping an immaculate yard.

She worked at La Plata High School as an Assistant Special Education Teacher for eleven years until she suffered a Brain Aneurysm and Massive Stroke in 1999. Her youngest son, Patrick and his wife Dana cared for her at home afterwards, however, ultimately had to place her at Charles County Nursing and Rehab (Sagepoint) due to needing 24 hour medical attention.

Arline was loved by staff, residents and their families. On Wednesday, May 6, 2020, she was succumbed by the Coronavirus.

Left to cherish her memory are sons, Michael and Patrick (Dana), siblings, Jimmy (Mary Ann) and Patsy (Louis), grandchildren, Erica, Johnny, Adrian, PJ, (Gerell & Shawnice/Lexi), nine great grandchildren, first cousins, William, Janice and Lisa, and a host of nieces, nephews, other cousins, along with two special friends: Elizabeth Campbell and Gladys Dyer, who were like second mothers to her sons.
