William M. Janof, age 81, died November 17, 2008 at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Bill was born April 5, 1927 in San Francisco, and raised in the Washington area. He married Bertha Johnson in 1955, and they lived in Suitland until moving to Dunkirk in 1971.

He was employed as a typesetter for the Washington Evening Star newspaper. He was also a school bus driver in Prince George's County for 25 years. He was a Seaman 1st Class in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and was awarded the Pacific and American Theater Ribbons, the WWII Victory Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal. He was also a member of the Stalling-Williams American Legion Post 206 in Chesapeake Beach. In his retirement Bill was an avid golfer.

He was preceded in death by his wife Bertha, his parents Maurice and Ann Janof, a stepson Marvin Peele, and a brother Robert Janof.

He is survived by his daughter Vicki L. Janof, a stepdaughter Jacqueline Lipscomb, four step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren, and a sister Dorothy Janof.
