Charles Gregory "Greg" Hurley, 64, of Mechanicsville, Md., passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2020, at his sister's home with family by his side. Beginning in 2016, Greg had battled through two separate rounds of cancer and remained strong and determined through it all. As he passed into God's presence, he could join Paul the apostle in claiming, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7)

Greg was born on January 1, 1956 in Washington, D.C. to Patricia Claire (Stoner) and Charles Lindburg Hurley. Along with his four siblings, he was raised by his mother and stepfather Robert Francis Jackson. Greg is survived by his loving and devoted partner of 32 years, Kathy Richardson; mother, Patricia Jackson; children, Christina Davis (Rick); Joseph Hurley (Rondi); stepchildren, Megan McDowell (Jude); Robby Richardson (Laura); sisters, Carolyn Pilkerton (Thomas) and Julie Heindel (Michael); brother, Timothy Hurley (Sherry); sister-in-law, Susan Gallagher; brothers-in-law, John Gallagher and Charles Posey; 12 grandchildren, Jordain, Alexis, Tyrus, and Christopher; Hannah, Skyler, Alexander, and Daxton; Lily and Pearl; Maxine and Hazel and two great-grandchildren, Hayden and Violet, as well as, a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Debra Burroughs and stepfather, Robert Jackson.

Having graduated a year early from Crossland High School, Greg enlisted into the U.S. Air Force at the age of 17. He honorably served his country for 13 years from 1973 to 1986, assuming the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Greg had a reputation as an early riser and possessed an exceptional work ethic. He was employed with Silva Contracting as a Superintendent at Children's Hospital and formed many friendships within the industry. A debt of gratitude is owed to his employer, Ed Silva for his continued support throughout his illness.

Greg was actively involved with Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), a community he was extremely proud of, and whose members grew to become like family to him. Greg was a 'voice of calm' and an inspiration to many during his 14 years of sobriety. His unyielding determination and faithfulness to God's will, guided him through his journey of sobriety and prepared him to face any future battles.

Greg enjoyed bowling, good music, watching the Redskins and the Nationals, but most of all, he loved rooting for his favorite NASCAR driver, Dale Earnhardt, Sr. He was a generous man and also took pleasure in helping the family with home projects. Family and friends will surely miss his quick-witted sense of humor and the laughter that followed.
