Betty Jo Rye, 84, of La Plata, Maryland, passed away on April 16, 2020. Betty Jo was born in Alderson, WV to the late Joseph and Betty Underwood on February 16, 1936.

Betty Jo is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alvin Rye. Betty Jo leaves behind her sister and brother in law J. Elaine and John Pickerall, her three sons and their wives; Dale and Judy Rye, Gary and Donna Rye, Carl and Sandra Rye, and her daughter Julie Kovach. She leaves behind eight grandchildren; Erin Graves, Matthew Rye, Scott Rye, Stephanie Rye, Patrick Rye, Heather Kovach, Samantha Smith and Sarah Fletcher. She is also survived by her single very special great-grandchild, Gwendolyn Graves.

Betty Jo was employed as a Legal Secretary in La Plata until she retired in 1994. Shortly after retiring she and Alvin moved to Ft. Myers, Florida. After the passing of her husband Betty Jo spent her remaining years in La Plata. Betty Jo is remembered as a dedicated wife, attentive mother and always available to her extended family. She enjoyed bowling, listening to country music, crossword puzzles and spending time with family and friends.

Currently, no memorial plans have been scheduled and her remains will be placed with her husband at Arlington National Memorial Cemetery in the near future.
